Baby Choices

Baby Choices: The most nonsensical idea I ever embraced as a mom was to give your baby choices.  The fact that I bought into it at all, I blame on DIPS (Dumbness Induced by Pregnancy Syndrome), a syndrome that I still have to this day.  The reason I know I still have it is because I continue to give my babies choices, even though I know it is absurd. I recall reading in a baby magazine this idea when my first born was a baby.  You can tell that they are targeting sleep deprived, fuzzy brained...

Recipe: Treat bites

Ingredients:  1/2  cup honey,  1/4 cup coconut oil, 1 & 1/4 cup natural peanut putter, 1 & 1/2 cups dry powdered milk, 3 cups rolled oats, 2 TS wheat germ, 2 TS flax seed, 1/2 mini chocolate chips. Mix together all ingredients and form balls. If the mixture is too dry add more honey or a little bit of water. Freeze on wax paper until firm. Store in sealed container.

Recipe: Chili

Ingredients: 1 pound of ground turkey (or beef), 2 cans kidney beans, 2 cans pork and beans, 1 can of crushed tomatoes, 1 can of tomato soup, 2 teaspoons chili powder, 1 teaspoon salt, 1 onion, 2 cloves of garlic. Brown the meat with chopped onion and minced garlic. Add all ingredients to a crock pot. Simmer on low all day.

Recipe: Granola bars

Ingredients: 1 cup rolled oat, 1/2 cup wheat flour, 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 teaspoon of baking soda and baking powder, 1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon, salt and vanilla, 1/4 cup coconut oil, 1/4 cup honey. Combine the dry ingredients. Add in the wet. You can also add at this time: chocolate chips, coconut, nuts or dried fruit. Press all ingredients into a 8×8 greased pan. Cook at 325 degrees for about 20 minutes.

Recipe: Dinner rolls

Mix 1 cup warm water, 2 tsp yeast and 1/4 cup sugar. Let them mix for 5 minutes. Add 1 egg, 1 tsp salt, 2 TB oil and 3 and 1/4 cups flour (I use 2 cups whole wheat and 1 and 1/4 white flour). Kneed and let rise for one hour. Coat a cookie sheet with olive oil and your hands as well. Form rolls and let the rolls rise in a warn area for up to an hour. Bake at 350 degrees for 15 minutes.
